Here are three AP photos of Dickinson State student Ramon Miller, in the Bahamas sky blue gear, competing in Wednesday’s 400 semifinals at the World Athletics Championships at Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
Miller missed the finals cut by about one-tenth of a second and finished fifth in his semifinal heat behind winner Jeremy Warnier of the United States, who is shown in all three pictures. Miller won his first heat race on Tuesday with a time of 45 seconds.
He set a new personal best with a 44.99 in the semifinals despite falling short of the finals. Miller will run a leg of 1,600-meter relay for the Bahamas. The heat races begin at 12:15 p.m. Saturday with the finals at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
Last August, Miller was an alternate on the Bahamas 1,600 relay team that won a silver medal at the Olympics in Beijing. He ran only in the heat races at the Olympics but is expected to compete in both this time around.
BONUS: Here’s a shot the AP passed of Derrick Atkins, another former DSU standout from the Bahamas, running against his distant cousin, Asafa Powell of Jamaica, in the 100 heats. Atkins, who took silver two years ago at the World Championships, failed to advance out of the heat and pulled out of the 200.
