Darko is heading back to Minnesota

You read that headline correctly. Darko Milicic has agreed to a four-year, $20 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves not long after the No. 2 overall pick of the 2003 NBA draft said his time in the league was over. Honestly though, Darko didn’t play too bad after he was traded to the T’Wolves last winter. He averaged 8.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks while starting 18 of 24 games. If nothing else, he gives the T’Wolves a nice big guy off the bench who is capable of making a little noise.

Does Darko signing and David Lee visiting the Twin Cities along with Rudy Gay mean Al Jefferson is on the way out of Minnesota for certain? It’s been sounding like they want to move him and if Lee comes on board, one would think Jefferson’s days in Minnesota are over. Now, I have to point out that if the T’Wolves sign Rudy Gay to pair alongside second-year forward Kevin Love, well, they could be in the beginnings of a new era with catchy little nickname.

SAD UPDATE: Rudy Gay is apparently staying in Memphis. Sad day for headline writers and sports comedy bloggers everywhere.
