Stroh out of Champions Ride

Dickinson’s Shaun Stroh said Saturday a nagging groin injury will force him to draw out of Sunday’s Champions Ride Saddle Bronc Match at the Home on the Range ranch near Sentinel Butte.

He has been sidelined for more than a week, but plans to try getting back in the saddle next weekend.

“It’s getting better, just not as fast as I need it to I guess,” Stroh said.

The 37-year-old is fourth in the world standings with $63,481 in earnings. Last season, Stroh had a breakout September, earning more than $48,000 to punch his ticket to the National Finals Rodeo. There, he won his first ever NFR average title and finished the season fourth in the world.

Stroh said he would like to compete in the match, but because money doesn’t count toward the world standings, it’s too much of a risk.

“I’ll see what plays out next week,” Stroh said. “I’ll start again on Wednesday. Hopefully it’ll be good.”

Here is the tentative list of bronc riders scheduled to be at the match.
