What are your thoughts on Favre’s alleged retirement?

I woke up this morning to the news that all-time great quarterback Brett Favre is supposedly retiring from the game of football. The Star Tribune in Minneapolis first reported that Favre sent texts to teammates this morning stating he plans to retire.

Early speculation is that his busted-up ankle is keeping him from being physically able to play. Something about this just doesn’t seem right. He did it with a text? That’s not very Favre is the first thing that came to my mind.

What do you think about this? Is he actually done? Is this situation as “fluid” as Vikings coach Brad Childress says it is? What of ESPN’s All-Favre, all-the-time coverage this morning? Surely something else is happening in sports, right? I’m giving you a chance to sound off. I’m turning off the moderated comments, which I don’t do very often, so go nuts but please keep it on topic.

  1. There is no way in the world he is not coming back.
The drama queen is setting himself up for an excuse if he doesn’t play well, and once again making himself the center of attention.
If you really believe he’s not coming back, I have a lovely bit of property to show you in downtown Lefor. It’s right on the beach …

  2. He needs to feel loved and wanted, and this is his way of looking to get that. Granted, we are barely a playoff team with out him, so we do need him. However, we must accept that he truly is a diva and live with it. My guess is he drops by the Vike’s locker room at halftime of the opener against the Saints, and leads them to victory.

  3. I dont know what all the fuss is about? He hasn’t actually said that he is officially done.
Until he has a press conference..oh wait, he already did that. Until he tells the team he’s done…oh wait he did that too. Until he is not in uniform for the whole season, then and only then will I beleive it.

I am not sure what ESPN will do next January – August if Favre doesn’t return. What will the “watch” be then?
