Tailgating at the BAC

Jon Stevenson serves up food to the Stanton brothers from Miles City, Mont., during tailgating festivities before Dickinson State's football game against Concordia College on Saturday.

This season is the first time Dickinson State has allowed tailgating outside of its stadium during football game. Building a $16 million facility sure will change some things, won’t they.

I decided to check out the tailgating this morning before DSU’s game against Concordia College and the one thing I can tell you is that the Blue Hawk fans are in love with this.

In years previous, fans would tailgate in College Park near the stadium. Now, they have a designated spot in the parking lot near the Badlands Activities Center. A spot where they can grill, socialize and (most importantly to college football fans) have a few adult beverages.

Mark Versen, a former DSU basketball player and the school’s new Assistant Director of Alumni and Donor Relations, said tailgating has been received better by boosters and fans than alumni and foundation officials expected and that only one-third of the area they have designated for tailgating has been filled.

They expect several more spots to be snatched up when DSU plays Jamestown College on Sept. 25 for its Homecoming game.
