If you are a ready who by some chance lives in the Fargo-Moorhead area, you should definitely check out ShoBox at Scheels Arena tonight. That’s where I’ll be.
The 10-fight card begins at 7 p.m. Central and is the first live professional boxing event to be broadcast on national TV in North Dakota in years. The live, televised part of the event begins at 10 Central/9 Mountain on Showtime.
The main event is Edwin “La Bomba†Rodriguez (12-6, 12 KOs) versus James McGirt, Jr. (22-2-1, 11 KOs), son of famed trainer and former world champion Buddy McGirt, in a second Super Middleweight bout. I’ve interviewed Buddy McGirt a couple times for stories. He is one of the best boxing minds on the planet. There are also a lot of great upper Midwest fighters on the undercard, like Minnesotan Andy Kolle.
Click the above link to the event’s Facebook page for ticket prices and details.
For those of you who don’t know, Scheels Arena is the new 5,000-seat arena in southwest Fargo that houses the Fargo Force USHL team and has been a host to several concerts. It’s in the brand-new Urban Plains Development and was formerly known as the UP Center before being renamed in October.
