One of Northern California’s top high school softball players has signed a letter of intent to play for Dickinson State next season.
Janell LaRont, a senior third baseman and pitcher at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, Calif., has committed to the Blue Hawks.
As a junior, LaRont was named the San Jose Mercury News Player of the Year, the top among the numerous awards she received. She was also an ESPN Rise California all-state first team selection and the West Catholic League’s Most Valuable Player.
“Janell is going to be a great addition to our Dickinson State softball program,†DSU head coach Kristen Fleury said in a press release. “She has the skills and ability to help our team not only stay competitive, but advance even higher in the NAIA. She is a great all around athlete that we are very excited to have on board next fall.â€
LaRont was 25-5 in the circle last season with 174 strikeouts and a 0.90 ERA in 85 innings. At the plate, she hit .468 with 32 RBI and three homers.
