Rain would likely bump Southwest Speedway opener

The Southwest Speedway is scheduled to open its season Saturday. But don’t count on it.

Speedway promoter Bob Klein said track officials are keeping a keen eye on the weather this week as they try to keep the already soggy track dry.

“It’s soupy out there,” Klein said. “There’s water still seeping out of the side hill.”

Rain is in the forecast tonight and Friday. Klein said Wednesday if the track sees any amount of precipitation, the races will likely have to be postponed.

“We’ll see what happens,” Klein said. “The (rain) is really supposed to set in.”

If there is a weather delay, races would run at the track Saturday, May 28. There is a rainout reschedule date set for Sunday, June 26 if necessary.
