Law enforcement, firefighters to be recognized, honored before DSU volleyball match

Trampus Haskvitz, who attended Dickinson State University and played football, died in August from injuries sustained while battling a fire in South Dakota’s Black Hills. He and others will be honored Saturday night before DSU's volleyball match.

Saturday is Law Enforcement Appreciation night during Dickinson State’s volleyball match against rival Minot State, which begins at 7 p.m. at Scott Gym. (I previously stated it was before Wednesday’s game. Thanks to DSU softball coach Kristen Fleury for the correction.)

Dickinson Police Department officers will be at the game and in uniform. Before the match, there will be tributes held for law enforcement officials and firefighters.

Those specifically being honored and remembered include:

  • Former DSU student Trampus Haskvitz, a firefighter who died in August from injuries sustained while battling a fire in South Dakota’s Black Hills.
  • Sgt. Steven Kenner, who in July became Bismarck’s first police officer killed in the line of duty.
  • Bryan Gross, a Converse County (Wyo.) deputy who died attempting to save a girl from a flooding river.
  • All those whose lives were lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
