Former Killdeer High School standout Austin Dufault enters his senior season at Colorado this season and is attending the Pac-12 Media Day with Buffs head coach Tad Boyle on Friday.
Here is his interview from Buffs Media Day.
On The Team’s Progress After Each Practice – “I think we are catching on to everything pretty quickly, especially for the amount of new guys we have on this team, and the amount of guys that left from last year. Just having a core group of guys like me, Carlon (Brown), Nate (Tomlinson) and Trey (Eckloff) that have been around Coach Boyle for a year now that helps even more because last year we had no idea what to expect, so we can help the younger guys out.”
On What It’s Like With The Core Group On The Floor – “It’s great. It allows us to play with a lot of length. Rebounding-wise I think we’re a better team when we get to play that big. (Andre) is so athletic and can cover so much ground with his size that I think being able to play big lineups this year won’t hurt us quickness-wise.”
On Trey Eckloff’s Improvement – “His post-moves have improved a lot. He’s starting to want the ball more down on the block. He’s a lot more comfortable playing down there. You can tell he worked on his game. Spin moves, up-and-under, things like that. He’s really tough to guard once he gets down there. He’s shooting the ball pretty well too.
Here’s a little from Boyle…
ON LACK OF DEPTH IN THE PAINT (AND IF HE FEELS BETTER ABOUT IT) – “If we stay healthy, I do feel good about it. The critical thing for us, is to develop depth on our front line. I like where Austin Dufault is being a senior he is playing with a lot of confidence right now. Andre Roberson had a great summer, we know how good he was last year and we just hope he can step it up to another level. Shane (Harris-Tunks) coming back off of his knee surgery. Those three guys I am confident with. We just have to stay healthy.”
ON WHERE HE THINKS OUR SCORING IS GOING TO COME FROM – “I think that will evolve as the season goes on, I think Carlon Brown being a senior will put the ball on the floor and do a lot of great things, so I think Carlon will make up for some of it. Nate Tomlinson one of the things we have asked him to do is to attack the basket and be more aggressive offensively, Nate is a great shooter we are going to need him to pick it up. Dufault is playing with a confidence right now as well. I think you always need to look at your seniors for that, those three guys I think they all need to take scoring roles. I think it is going to come from a lot of different areas. I think the one thing about this year’s team is we have better balance, the ball just moves a little bit better it’s not put on the floor as much, we are still going to attack the basket but I think we will be more balanced than we were last year.”
